Girls Forum
Why a girls forum?
Girls forum is one of the extra curricula activities in LOTI. This activity is designed to be part of the program for these reasons:
- To reawaken the values of a woman.
- To create awareness for purpose in the girl students.
- To reawaken the importance of integrity.
- To lead them into leadership.
This forum has already begun. The program was initially intended only for LOTI students, but as time went on, other girls who have heard of this are coming to be informed. The nature of this program is:
- Sharing experiences(personal, family, cultural & educational), in relation to the topic deliberated for the meeting.
- Discussion on matters arising from their experiences.
So far, the forum has had discussions on:
- Awareness(self, social, and group cultural awareness).
- Marginalization(individual and gender marginalization).
- Temperaments.
This forum is held every forth night. Already the girls who have been parts of this forum are witnessing changes in their behavioral approach.

Climate change is real
The increasing awareness of education, work and globalization has introduced a new way of life in Africa and Cameroon in particular. The last decade introduced the need for the education of the girl child. It also introduced the need for the African woman to exploit who she is. This new ideology broadened the minds of the women from being contented with the house wife title and subsistence farming as their natural profession. Due to this new way of life, new eating habits have been introduced. Men, women and children go for fast food and most often eat out of home. This food which is often sold by the road side and by the vendors are sold in polythene bags. This bags are often dropped on the streets after use. Globalization has also introduced new products in use in every Cameroonian home.
- Polythene bags have taken the place of plantain leaves.
- Cosmetics have replaced cam wood.
- Cars have replaced horses.
- Computers, radios, telephones, televisions have replaced the gong and the bell.
Globalization has brought about magnificent changes but it has given birth to unawareness of its management. Looking back into our community, there was no problem with the management of waste because man lived with nature. All the waste he dropped was useful to the soil or the animals, but today the use of modern things has planted worries and in a bit to solve this problem, he has adopted the following ways:
- Waste is carried to the farms by individuals.
- Waste is collected by the local council and dumped by the streams and vast lands.
- Waste is collected from offices and burnt.
- Waste is often burnt by the council when the heap occupies a lot of space.
Today the common cry in Cameroon is climate change. The man on the streets recognizes this because of the cocoa yam light that is ongoing in Cameroon and the unpredictable climate. The common man keeps asking himself that who is responsible for this climate change? Can I be the cause or the industrial activities of the developed countries?. These worries have led LOTI to engage in climate change, bringing awareness on climate change and home waste management in the community.
